Marklew Productions Ltd is a live event production company specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of high-end stages, sets and event environments for corporate events, conferences, exhibitions and live productions.

We are looking for a skilled and creative Event Carpenter to join our team and play a key role in bringing our event designs to life.

 

The Role

As an Event Carpenter, you will be responsible for the construction, installation and dismantling of temporary stages, sets and bespoke event structures.

 

The role is varied, combining workshop-based carpentry and set construction at our Birmingham premises with installation and de-rig work at corporate venues and event spaces throughout the UK.

 

You’ll work from drawings, plans and creative concepts to manufacture high-quality set pieces and structures, often working to tight deadlines and specific event requirements.

 

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

• Construct and manufacture temporary stages, sets and bespoke event structures.

• Build set panels, scenic elements, furniture and other bespoke pieces in the workshop.

• Interpret technical drawings, plans and design concepts.

• Carry out carpentry, joinery and general set-building work to a high standard.

• Prepare, load and organise equipment and set components for transportation.

• Install stages, sets and exhibition/event structures at venues across the UK.

• Dismantle and pack down installations safely and efficiently after events.

• Work as part of a wider production team, alongside project managers, designers, technicians and other trades.

• Adapt designs and construction methods where required to suit individual venues or on-site requirements.

• Work safely and responsibly, following company procedures and venue requirements.

• Maintain workshop tools, equipment and working areas.

• Ensure all finished work is presented to a high-quality, professional standard.

• Assist with general workshop and production duties when required.

 

About You

We are looking for someone who is creative, practical and highly skilled, with a genuine interest in building and creating things.

 

You should ideally have:

• Proven experience as a carpenter, joiner, set builder or scenic carpenter.

• Experience within the events, exhibitions, theatre, film/TV or live production industry is highly desirable.

• Strong practical carpentry and construction skills.

• The ability to work from technical drawings and dimensions.

• A good eye for detail and a commitment to producing high-quality finishes.

• The ability to problem-solve and think creatively when faced with challenging builds.

• Good organisational skills and the ability to work to tight deadlines.

• The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• A professional attitude when working with clients and at corporate venues.

• A full UK driving licence required.

 

Working Hours & Travel

This is an event-based role, so flexibility is essential.

 

The main place of work will be Marklew Productions Ltd in Birmingham, however, you will be required to travel to venues across the UK for installations and dismantles.

 

The role will involve:

• Occasional early starts and late finishes.

• Evening and overnight work when required.

• Weekend work depending on event schedules.

• Overtime during busy periods.

• Overnight stays when projects require them.

• Working to fixed event deadlines where timings can be demanding.

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for someone who doesn’t just see themselves as a carpenter, but as a creative problem solver and maker.

 

You should enjoy taking an idea or drawing and turning it into a finished physical product. You’ll need to be equally comfortable working in a busy workshop, loading a van at 6am, installing a set in a conference venue and dismantling it late at night.
